Ty Stimpson Receives the 2023 “Legend in the Making” Award for Law

Ty Stimpson, a partner at Varghese Summersett Injury Law Group, is the recipient of the 2023 Dr. Marion J. Brooks Legend in the Making Award for Law — a prestigious award that honors civic and community leaders who are making their mark in Tarrant County.

Stimpson was honored with five other award recipients on Friday, June 17, at the 29th Annual Dr. Marion J. Brooks Living Legends Award Ceremony at the Palmwood Event Center in downtown Fort Worth. The awards — presented by the Beta Tau Lambda Charitable Foundation and the Beta Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity — honor Tarrant County leaders who have exemplified excellence in their chosen vocation and provided great service to the community.

“I work each day to serve my community, to serve my clients, and to serve my family — so to be honored for that truly means a lot,” Stimpson said during his acceptance speech. “To be in a room with so many esteemed community members and civic leaders is, in and of itself, an honor.”

Named after the legendary physician Dr. Marion J. Brooks, the event highlights the accomplishments and contributions of members of the Tarrant County community across various fields. The “Living Legend” award honors deserving individuals 65 and older who have spent a lifetime achieving excellence and have earned legendary status. The “Legend in the Making” award recognizes young professionals who are well on their way.

The 2023 Living Legends honorees were Dr. Barbara Odom-Wesley (Health Education); Dr. John L. Barnett Jr. (Medicine and Philanthropy); and Dr. Arlene Barnett (Medicine and Philanthropy).

The 2023 Legend in the Making honorees were Kandice Boutte (Government); Crystal Brown (Health); and Ty Stimpson (Law).

Stimpson is a highly regarded trial attorney who leads Varghese Summersett Injury Law Group, where he combines his passion for the law with his passion for helping people who have had their lives shattered through no fault of their own. He seeks justice for victims who have been wrongfully injured or killed and works tirelessly to ensure that their rights are protected, and voices are heard.

Stimpson is equally passionate outside the legal arena, where he is devoted to a life of service to others. He serves on numerous boards, committees, task forces, and commissions and has made significant contributions to the North Texas community.

“When Ty is not in the office or the courtroom, you will find him out in his community, giving back in any way he can,” said Benson Varghese, managing partner of Varghese Summersett. “He is the epitome of a servant leader, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the ‘Legend in the Making’ award.”

During his acceptance speech, Stimpson thanked his wife, Jordan, and his mother, Linda, for their sacrifices and contributions to his success. He then left the audience with a charge.

“Let’s push each other to excel to new levels and reach greater heights as individuals and as a community,” Stimpson said. “Let us always stand in what is right and do what is right, especially when it is hard – because that’s when doing right is needed the most.

“Know that you are making a difference. Know that you are being good stewards of your ancestors’ efforts, and they are so proud. Being a leader is hard work, but it is vital work, and we are in the trenches together.”
